Athena

Athena the bellydancer, Chris' alter ego, has been dancing for the last 8 years. She has studied with Karri, "Gilroy's Little Package of Dynamite". Karri has been director of Troupe Soraya and Troupe Za'Fire as well as being a Garlic Festival staple for the last 21 years. Athena has also studied with various other well-known belly dancers and has been honored to compete with them at various competitions. Although award competitions are great fun, the real joy is in dancing. Athena has a style that combines cabaret, egyptian, and a bit of classical ballet. Athena has danced professionally for the last 6 years and has taught belly dancing in Gilroy and Hollister. Athena is available for parties and other performances. Her candle and sword dances are breathtaking and add so much to any occasion.

Athena has received these awards for her outstanding peformances:

• Third Place (with Troupe Zim Zala Bim) at the "Wiggles of the West" competition in Reno, 1998
• Second Place (with Troupe Zim Zala Bim) at the "Wiggles of the West" competition in Reno, 2000
• Fourth Place in the "People's Choice" competition, 1999
• Third Place in the 2000 "People's Choice" competition
• Second Place in the prestigious "Desert Rose Awards", 2001 ( the "Desert Rose" Awards are only open to previous award winners)
• First Place in the 2004 "People's Choice" Cleopatra Award competition
